AIMTC BACKGROUND

We would like to introduce All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), an apex body of Transporters – (both Cargo and Passenger) serving the industry from last 81 years, representing approx. 93 lacs Truckers and approx. 50 lacs Bus & Tourist Operators. It is an umbrella body of covering over 3300 Taluka, Distt., State level Federations & Transport Associations. We may mention here that the Transport Industry provides direct and indirect employment up to 20 crore people of our country.

Since 1936, when AIMTC was set up in Lahore, it has been serving the cause of development of the transport industry. Originally set-up as the Association India Motor Union Congress (AIMUC) to avert the deteriorating situation of Transport Industry in the country at that time, the President of India National Congress was its President with a working president elected to manage the affairs of the body.

In 1968, we changed our name to All India Motor Transport Congress to have a separate identity as a non-political organization.

Its present operations are carried out from the national capital, Delhi. AIMTC maintains a continuing liaison with the government, both at the center and states, canvassing for development of road network and other infrastructure facilities. We acquire and disseminate knowledge about various aspects of the transport industry to our members and generally among the owners and users of the transport industry to enhance the standard of transport services.

Since 1947, AIMTC has had the privilege to be associated with a majority of important committees and commissions appointed by the government of India including the Transport Development Council.
